Sacral Fracture Treated with Lumbar to Pelvis Fusion
Patient History: 69-year-old woman with intractable pelvic and back pain. She suffered a sacral fracture. She failed all conservative methods of treatment.
Surgery: The patient’s lower spine and pelvis were stabilized with pedicle screws and rods.
Outcome: She did very well after the surgery. There were no hospital complications. Patient was discharged home after 2 days in the hospital. She experienced complete relief of her back pain in the early postoperative period. Months later, the patient suffered a compression fracture above her fusion and has mild to moderate back pain at this time.
